How To Be Successful

How To Be Successful

Last night my wife and I attended a health talk by an MD specializing in alternative health care. It was very interesting, bringing back memories from my days in practice. (For those of you who may not know, my degree is a Doctor of Chiropractic and I practiced in Atlanta for 12 years.) It was gratifying to see that things we were talking about in the 80’s regarding health care are now being embraced by MD’s. But that is not the point of this article.

What interested me the most was this doctors ease of communications and success. He obviously knew his stuff, resources and had the experience to substantiate what he was saying. He spoke with a confidence because he was successful; he was successful because he was focused.

I have been thinking recently about successful people (not necessarily monetary success) and the reoccurring theme i see is: they tend to find one thing they are passionate about and do it well.

The health care industry is a great example of this; the more you specialize, the greater your earning potential. Sports is another example: according to SI Vault for 2008 the average quarterback made $1,970,982 while the ave running back made $957,360. Professional baseball is similar: according to SI Vault for 2008 the average designated hitter made $6,689,132.91 while the ave catcher made $2,160,425.94. The point is – find the one thing and do it well.

I believe this same principle applies spiritually. The one thing we should be focusing on and developing is the gifting He has placed in us. For example, if your gifting is a teacher, find the environment that you do best in: youth, children, adults, home bible studies, prison, nursing homes each requires a unique approach. Churches should do the same. Do not establish programs or ministries because every other church is, but build your ministries around the unique giftings God has placed within the local body.

As individual and churches, when we find our spiritual uniqueness and focus on it, there will be a contagious passion that develops. Your “success” will increase because you are doing what you were intended to do. Your faith and confidence levels will rise and you will see more demonstration of His miraculous power in you life.

food for thought – what is that one thing you are passionate about? Are you developing it?

How very true. I have always enjoy studying the word and then passing that knowledge along to others! I am passionate about His Word and the importance of us to bring it to others clearly! Thanks. Great post.
