Great home fellowship last night. Second session of study. “Making God Look Good, The Attractional Lifestyle of the Kingdom.”

The topic was The Kingdom Culture

Here is a summary of some of the points discussed

  • Culture = the total of the inherited ideas, beliefs, values, and knowledge, which constitute the shared bases of social action.

  • It is the total range of activities and ideas of a group of people with shared traditions, which are transmitted and reinforced by members of the group:

Our beliefs determine what we value, and it is our values that result in our behavior

You can determine what a person believes or values by watching their behavior.

The culture of the Kingdom is different in three main areas;

1. Mentality – the source of our beliefs ultimately determines our actions

  • Kingdom beliefs are formed by the Word of God.
  • Jesus stated “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Mt 4:17). The Greek word for repent is metanoeō and it means to change ones mind or think differently

2. Morality – basically two views on morality: human and divine

  • Human: man determines what is right or wrong based on his own beliefs and values. It changes with the culture and times
  • Divine: based on unchanging Word of God. Consistent and applicable to all cultures and times.
  • Many instances it is counter-culture to the worlds

3. Mastery – Humanism/man says we are our own masters. Kingdom says we are to be disciples. Take up our cross, die daily follow the King. If we live our own life will lose it. Or if we lose it we will find it in the life of the King.

Summary: Kingdom of God has its own culture. If we are part of this kingdom we will exhibit the culture of the Kingdom.
