When Will They Ever Learn?

When Will They Ever Learn?

It’s not the number of storms you endure that develops character. It is what the storms develop in you that build character.

Have you ever made the statement: “When will they ever learn?” There are individuals who are always in a crisis mode. Something has always gone wrong: Financial, health, marriages, family, relationships or spiritually. It seems that they never learn from the situations. I know of individuals who have changed churches untold number of times. Each time they leave there is usually an “issue” they are unhappy about or dealing with.

If we stop and think about it and ask one eye-opening question: “What is the common factor in these repeated problems?” The answer – THE INDIVIDUAL!

A hard question because it forces us to evaluate and take responsibility: for our actions, our decisions and what we are becoming. In the midst of these trials we are developing: yet it is our choice as to what develops in our lives. We can continue down the same path of anger, blame and bitterness; or we can use them as fire is used to purify gold.

James says: “whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.“ (NLT James 1:2-4)

Another thought: Fire is used to purify gold and temper steel. One becomes soft and malleable: the other hard and inflexible. Which one are you becoming?

This was really well written. I can definitely say that I have been that individual who has thought that everything has gone wrong. When everyone around you is saying that you should be having the time of your life, in reality you feel differently. However, it is all about overcoming the obstacles that lay ahead and letting your faith guide you through them. God has a plan and gave a route to go down for a reason. There comes a time when you have to just trust in Him and believe that it can come to the point calm. It makes you appreciate all that He does for you and you can be happier. There is no doubt in my mind that life is tough. But if life didn’t have obstacles, then we would life in a perfect world. This type of world was not God’s intent. He wanted us to learn from our mistakes and appreciate His glory.
